Our Greece road trip itinerary is described below, which was in total 14 days.
Table of Contents
There is a lot of information in the internet about this beautiful country, but choose what you really would like to see, as travelling bigger distances in a day might be tiring and you won’t enjoy as much as you would staying in one place a bit longer to explore it and feel the vibe of the city.
Day 1 to 3 – Athens, Greece
Firstly on our road trip, we arrived to Athens. It was quite stressful to pickup the car as the company said it was in the airport, but in fact it was a bit of a drive from airport and we’ve waisted two hours trying to contact the agency.
Day 1 – Acropolis museum
Day 2 – Acropolis of Athens
Day 3 – Exploring other sites of Athens
We’ve stayed in Athens a few nights to explore the Athens and we were lucky to see few sunsets from high hills. But be prepared for the crowds!
Day 4 – Delphi
In Delphi we’ve stayed only one night and explored the archeological site in the morning. We could feel the extreme heat, even though we left Athens.
Day 5 – Meteora and the Monasteries
We’ve stayed in a town called Kalabaka close to Meteora and we had an amazing view of Meteora mountains form our balcony.
Day 6 – Sivota
We’ve stayed at a lovely hotel with an infinity pool in Sivota. It was also very close to the beach as well and had a lovely restaurant next to the pool (the food was so so though).
Day 7 & 8 – Parga, Greece
We’ve stayed near Parga though as it had a nice apartment with an amazing sea view from the balcony.
Day 9 – Cassope/Nikopolis & Olympia
First we stopped at Archaeological site of Cassope and we were the only visitors! It was extremely hot as we have arrived at noon.
Then we visited Ancient Nikopolis Archaeological Site, where we were almost the only visited (maybe 2 other people), probably due to the extreme heat.
Then arrived to Olympia at night, where we’ve stayed in an amazing 4 star hotel – Amalia Hotel Olympia!
We’ve visited the Archeological Site of Olympia next day in the morning, where it was extremely hot and almost unbearable to walk. Make sure to try their VR option!
Day 10 – Kalamata, Greece
In Kalamata we’ve stayed in the worst hotel in our trip, which had no air-con and 42°C outside. At least they had a pool and they kept a bit longer open as they normally close before sunset, so we had some time to enjoy it and cool down.
Day 11 – Mystras/Sparta & Monemvasia
On our way to Monemvasia we stoppped at ancient Sparta archeologcial site.
We’ve stayed in a nice guesthouse in Monemvasia with a wonderful view of the magnificent Monemvasia peak from a balcony. The only regret that we didn’t get higher balcony as the electricity wires were as stripes across the pictures.
In the morning we have explored Monemvasia Fortress.
Day 12 to 14 – Palamidi Fortress/Mycenae/Nafplio/Epidaurus
We were not able to enter to Palamidi Fortress, but we visited both Epidaurus and Mycenae.
Day 15 – Flying back from Greece
We’ve stayed in the hotel near Athens airport, so that it is easier to reach it in the morning and also we had to drop of the car in the evening as car rental didn’t want to accept it 7am (talking about lazy) and asked extra Є30 if they come 30min earlier to their opening hours (8am).
