Yesterday night we went for a walk at night and to get a drink in a bar while we were in Springfield, IL on our Route 66. The town was dead at midnight, not a living soul around! It looked like like a ghost city If not seldomly passing cars, one might think all people got abducted or something or Zombie virus went through haha.

Illinois State Museum looks both impressive at night and day.

This morning we got up early again. 8:30 am we were having breakfast already. Once we loaded our car with our luggages and other stuff (it is so packed!!!), we decided to walk to Lincoln’s house.

We bought the national park annual pass for , which covers all 4 passengers. Furthermore, we got the ticket for 11:15 am guided tour in the Lincoln’s house. But problem was that we had to wait more than an hour and it is freaking hot outside! Over 30 C!
We walked around the area to explore Lincoln’s neighbors, but we couldn’t bare anymore and I desperately needed coffee! So we went looking for Starbucks.

The streets were so empty while we were walking! We actually even took a picture in the middle of the street. Then we realized that there was a car waiting for us to get off the road! They didn’t beep, didn’t shout and just patiently wait! Incredible!

Drivers are so polite here in general. They let you pass the street even if there is no pedestrian crossing. Which actually reminds me, that pedestrian crossings have no zebra patter, but instead two parallel lines.
The iced coffee was so good and refreshing, that one person from our crew left his sack with passport and money in there! Good that one lady has chased us. People are really nice. Always ask where you from and if you enjoy the town. The lady in Starbucks even gave me suggestion to go to Indian village Kahokia (Cahokia on the map) to observe it. Unfortunately the totality doesn’t pass there.
We got back in time for the tour. While the guy was giving us introduction two fire engines came in. Firefighters were walking with extinguishers into one building. Nobody told us what was happening. Maybe a drill.
The Lincolns’ family house looked amazing. The carpets looked amazing though a reproduction. Tapestry was impressive as well and a lot of furniture were gathered back from people and are original.

The mirror in Lincoln’s room was hanging quite high as he was a high man!

Also, the guide told us that Lincoln and his wife had separate rooms, since it was a sign of wealth at that time.
Lincoln had one maid and she was paid for a week! The value of dollar certainly has changed!
We visited Old State Capitol briefly. That’s where Lincoln and Obama were nominated for president.

llinois State Museum we just passed by in a car as it was too hot to walk outside already.

Lincoln monument was in the cemetery in the north west if Springfield. It is impressive and that’s where Lincoln and his family remains rest.

The weather forecast doesn’t look promising for tomorrow Solar Eclipse, since it says 45% chance that it is cloudy in St. Claire. Will need to explore the satellite maps in the morning and decide where to go.
