As you probably know, in January 2012 I was flying to La Palma de Santa Cruz to do my internship for a year in there and I needed a flight plan to get there.

So here is my flight plan:

I was traveling like this: Vilnius – Berlin – Madrid – Tenerife – La Palma de Santa Cruz.
This turned out to be the cheapest travel option. Also, there wasn’t much time left until the flight and there are no direct flights to La Palma. In total, it was less than 1000Lt (~£250) with luggage. The travel agency greitai.lt (no longer exists) offered an option for 3172 Lt (~£800), flight duration more than 20 hours!
Plan with Stops to Explore
I booked in such a way that there would be around 48h gaps between stops. Even if I miss one flight, I would have time reserve to get there. Stopping in Madrid and Tenerife meant these stops are a good chance to see new places. Madrid is a big, exciting city, and even a short time there would let me feel its energy and maybe see some amazing old buildings or interesting museums. It was a quick peek into Spain’s busy capital. Then, the stop in Tenerife offered something completely different. It’s a volcanic island with dramatic views, from high peaks to the coast. It was a chance to see a bit of that unique island nature and enjoy a different kind of atmosphere before heading to my final stop. These planned breaks made the long journey feel less like just traveling and more like the start of the adventure, getting to experience a little bit of two other interesting spots along the way.
Of course, I did find a slightly cheaper option. However, not very reliable, because the flight from Lithuania was with Wizzair and they are always delayed. Vilnius – Barcelona (Wizzair), Barcelona – Tenerife (Ryanair), Tenerife – La Palma (Binter Canarias Airlines). In total it came out to about 900 – 1000 Lt (up to ~£250), which was pretty much similar.
Prior my departure I did have nightmare of my suitcase getting lost in Madrid Airport. Luckily that didn’t happen!
