Driving Route 66 is an iconic American experience. Known affectionately as the “Mother Road,” this historic highway stretches approximately 2,448 miles across the heart of the United States, connecting Chicago, Illinois, in the east to Santa Monica, California, in the west. Established in 1926, it was a primary route for westward migration, especially during the Dust Bowl era, and became a symbol of hope and opportunity. Today, while largely bypassed by the Interstate Highway System, sections of the original Route 66 are preserved as a historic byway, offering travellers a nostalgic journey through classic Americana, dotted with vintage diners, quirky roadside attractions, and charming small towns that keep the spirit of the Mother Road alive.
