First stop was Route 66 museum in Litchfield. We put the pin in the map for Lithuania. We were the first ones this year from Lithuania again!
Some impressive signs from Route 66.
A really old Juke box!
That old stereoscope looks cool. These days we have Virtual Reality, pretty much similar construction, just based on smartphone.
Then some photos on the road with Route 66 sign.
We went for a drink just across the road to Ariston cafe. The owner of the cafe met us outside and offered to take a picture of all of us. Later he suggested to take some pictures from inside even if we don’t order anything.
Astonished by the interior we decided to take not only beer but also some soup and onion rings.
The broccoli soup was divine!
A waiter also asked us to sign into two books and gave us free postcards and magnets. The people here love Lithuania!
Though we ate only soup we were full. The water brought a whole tray of desserts for us to choose. They all looked so good! He was doing great job as a waiter! We refused desserts, since we couldn’t eat anymore.
After our quick bute owner suggested to take a picture behind the bar. This cafe I totally recommend!
A quick stop for drive-in cinema photos at the end of Litchfield. Open only Friday and Saturday night, so we can’t go in.
Then just a photo from the car of Belvidere Motel in the other end of Litchfield. It looks abandoned for a while.
In Mt Olive we took a quick look at Soulsby Service Station. This place didn’t have air-con inside. It felt like a sauna inside. Signed in the guest book as well.
In Collinsville there is the world’s Largest Catsup Bottle. Just a photo passing by.
We drove through Martin Luther King Bridge to our American Best Value Inn. Dreadful place! The room was soaked in cigarettes and so dark. At least air-con was working! Breakfast is just coffee and a bun. No place to eat inside. All places were booked because of Eclipse. We consider ourselves lucky.
After check-in the hotel we went to see Chain of Rocks Bridge. Be aware that they close it after dawn and reopen in the dusk. This bridge is famous in Route 66 as it was very difficult to build in the strong currents of Mississippi river. We’ve made it just right for sunset! Astonishing view from the bridge.
We had to cross one way bridge, which was not clear how long we have to wait, since red light was on for like 5 minutes. Apparently we had to move closer to the traffic light so that camera would pick up.
At night everyone were too tired to go to the city, but after some wine I went for a stroll. On my way I lost from my pocket. Later found it!
Architecture in some places reminds Rome.
Thus Arch is the highest monument in USA! It looks impressive!
Today we have made around 184km and with Chain of Rock bridge 240km.
