In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
These are the words from Old Testament – Genesis. I am not religious myself, but I think it fits very well the phenomena of Total Solar Eclipse, when the day becomes a night. Also these words were read by Bill Anders, Jim Lovell, Frank Borman while orbiting the Moon (first travel to the Moon orbit by humans) on December 24th, 1968.
Same recording was used by Mike Oldfield in his song “In the beginning”.
This idea to go to China to observe Total Solar Eclipse was born a very long time ago in 2006 in Al Salloum dessert (Egypt) while observing a Total Solar Eclipse. Total Solar Eclipse really stirs your emotions, superstitions and it is very confusing to the entire animal world. At that time there was many like-minded people willing to travel to see the Total Eclipse one more time. However, after three years passed this idea has been forgotten, until I have posted on a social site called Toostis
, organising an expedition to China to observe Total Solar Eclipse, a celestial event that is so explicit and rare. Many places where Total Solar Eclipse takes place are very difficult to reach and such event is observed every 2-3 years in the plant, but places like Antarctica, Easter Island or Slvadbrad are difficult to travel to.
We were planning to start our trip 5th July 2009 and end it 1st August. There was supposed to be two people (including me). However, the other person decided not to go for some reason, claiming that she had the tickets, but later couldn’t go for personal reasons I suspect those tickets haven’t been bought after-all. Well, that’s a very good lesson: when you book a trip – make sure all parties book together so you are sure they bought the flight and that everyone are committed to go on the trip.
In the end, I ventured to this trip on my own, paid with my own money and some donations from my brothers and video camera borrowed from one of them, which I was very grateful for.
Feel free to donate if you will like this blog and want it to keep going.
